A 10-party opposition alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a mass rally in the capital's Nayapaltan area on August 5, demanding full implementation of the July Charter, according to alliance leaders.

Alliance leaders said the decision to hold the rally came during a liaison committee meeting where members expressed frustration over delays in implementing the agreed provisions.

Political tensions rise

Police officials said they have been informed of the rally plans and are coordinating security arrangements to prevent disruption in the capital. Similar opposition demonstrations in recent months have occasionally led to clashes with law enforcement, though most have remained largely peaceful.

Analysts say the rally could set the tone for a tense run-up to the presidential election and, eventually, national parliamentary polls, as rival factions jockey for leverage over the reform agenda.
